Outhaul Sheave Replacement

Post by Vento Solare »

Earlier this week I was out sailing and heard a thunk on the cockpit deck. I looked down and saw a pie shape wedge piece of a plastic sheave. It turned out to be one of the 4 sheaves at the end of the boom for the outhaul. The plastic was 9 years old and had significantly deteriorated. Here is information for replacement sheaves. I ordered the FB2-10 Acetyl Sheave (50mm OD, 10mm ID, 14mm Wide) from Rigrite on this page and received them in 48 hours.

The 4 sheaves and the axle slide out the aft end of the boom when the lines are moved out of the way. The cleaning, lubrication and replacement of the axle/sheaves took less than 15 minutes and required no special tools.
