There is a toe rail built into the forward part of the deck on the J-109 but nothing after second stantion. I've built some toe rail out of 1 inch by 3/4 inch starboard and attached it to the deck. It bends very nicely and is low enough to sit on it when hiking but high enough to brace the edge of your foot against when moving along the low side of the boat. If anyone is interested let me know and I'll post pictures.
