We have a stereo system on the boat that we are pretty happy with - but has anyone rigged a system up to have an iPod plug directly into a system? The FM transmitters are OK but are not very good if you have any instrumentation on ( radar, wind, speed ect...) Lots of static. I know this is all fluff, but any advice on what you 've done would be helpful.
I just purchased Traveller (Hull #44) that came with a Pioneer radio/CD- model DEH-P4400. Like you I wanted more than just FM and have updated it to use an iPod and also satellite radio. Many of the new “carâ€
Jerry - send on the part numbers as well as the stereo that you have. If we need to swap out the stereo portion this sounds like it might do the trick as we are looking to get satellite radio as well. The Sat radio that you have: can you use it at home as well as on the boat? A friend of ours has a sat radio for the boat and has rigged the antenna without drilling holes - I will ask him about the details of that and post for you. Thanks! Maya
Sorry for the delay. I was trying to get all the details for you. If you are using the Pioneer system then you can get details from their car audio web page at http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/Car for info on the main unit (CD, AM/FM) and satellite radios.
My system is a two year old DEH-P4400 model for the main unit with Bose speakers in the cabin and removable Bose marine (outdoor) speakers on the stern. If you choose a new unit make sure it is satellite radio compatible (The trademark for XM or Sirius radio should be somewhere on the box or instructions.) I then purchased model #GEX-P920XM XM Digital Satellite Tuner for Pioneer Units. The Sirius module is identical. I chose XM over Sirius since it had baseball for it's core free sport instead of football and basketball. The satellite radio tuner has P-Bus connector to allow "pass through"
Jerry - our solution to the antenna issue is we are mounting ours on our radar post. No drilling holes in the deck! yeah! Thanks again for the information!
