What is a good way to mark the boom vang to repeat settings?

I put an arrow on both sides of the block and taped zebra stripes on the cylinder with numbers. My vang is double ended and normally controlled from the cockpit. The end by the mast is for knockdowns only.

I am curious, would you have a picture of how you made it double-ended?

My vang is squeeking, the manual says to put grease on the spring, with no specifics about how to get to it other than a parts diagram. Have you done this? What is involved? Is this difficult or time-consuming? Thank you for your insights always!

This is an old picture that shows the mast end for double ending. The lead aft goes through the deck organizer and uses the port inboard Spinlock clutch. You can follow the Harken Vang Manual diagram for disassembly and reassembly.
