Hull #171 is now having it's hull Awlgripped black, and soon will be ready for commissioning. Any tips or recommendations from other J109 owners that have already gone through the process would be greatly appreciated. Anything that you did that worked out well (or didn't) and anything that you know now that you didn't know then?

Any input on electronics choices would be greatly appreciated. Also, anybody out there with radar installed on the boat? If so, where did you mount it.

Paint: Recommendation: prime the keel and rudder, and make sure that if the keel or rudder is sanded prior to painting, that you don't take off too much paint. There is a minimum thickness of the primer over the keel, and you risk paint damage if the primer isn't thick enough (it's stamped on the keel as delivered). Are you planning on having your saildrive painted?

Electronics: the 109's in Seattle all have H1000's. I'm mostly happy, except for a transducer failure which resulted in grounding...

I have my primary electronics (which includes an autopilot and a chartploter at the helm) tied into my laptop at the nav station running Nobeltec software as a back-up system. Sam Stiness of Bayside Navigation BayNav1@aol.com helped me to figure out what equipment to buy and installed it. He's done about 20 J109 installations so far and is pretty well versed on where things should go.
